Welcome to the Boulder
Junction Trail Reports page. As regular visitors to Boulder Junction
will know, the local snowmobile club offers some of the finest
riding in the Midwest.
The 130 miles of trail in and
around the Boulder Junction area are constantly groomed throughout
the season, to keep them in tip-top shape. The trails are connected
to hundreds of miles of Vilas County trails, and thousands of miles
of northern Wisconsin trails. It's no accident that our area
continually wins awards for best snowmobile destination. It is also
worth noting that Boulder Junction lies far enough north that we are
well inside the U.P. snow-belt. We often receive lake effect snow
that communities to our south do not receive.

I never thought I would be reporting excellent conditions this late in the season, but its true. We are expecting more snow today so conditions should remain great through this next weekend. We have slowed our grooming pace down this time of year, there are not many riders so we only groom a couple times a week but the trails are in great shape. We didn't get the snow that was predicted so the trails are getting rough. We are grooming trying to get them in good shape for the weekend so bear with us, we can only do so much this time of year, once that sun starts getting warm it takes its toll on the snow in a hurry. The trails are slowly melting in the warm sun but overall they are still in pretty good shape. We won't be grooming as often now, not many weekday riders and the sun makes the snow pretty wet. They are calling for some snow in the next couple days, if its not too warm we will try to smooth the trails for the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed. The trails continue to be in very good condition, with a few slick spots on the sharp curves. Not much snow in the forecast but cold temperatures should allow us to keep grooming at least into next week. We will have to keep our fingers crossed after that, when the temps get into the mid to high 30's the snow gets dark pretty quick. Our annual Cabin Fever Party will be held at Gooch's A-1 on Saturday, March 2nd 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. We will draw the winners to our big raffle that night at 8:00! After another busy weekend the trails are in very good shape, the exception being a few corners that are slick. Hopefully we can have a couple more weeks of good conditions before the march sun starts melting the snow. Boulder Junction area trails are EXCELLENT condition. We received well over a foot of snow with the storm that passed thru Tuesday into Wednesday. All trails are groomed in in the best condition we have seen all season. Come on up and enjoy the ride!! Thanks to the Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club for all their hard work this season. Boulder Junction area trails are GOOD condition. We received about 6 inches of fresh snow over the past 24 hours and it looks beautiful out there! THE STATE FUNDED SNOWMOBILE TRAIL SYSTEM IN VILAS COUNTY WILL OFFICIALLY OPEN AT NOON ON MONDAY 12 DECEMBER 2011.
With minimal snow, the use of caution is strongly recommended. Trails are in early season condition and riders may encounter rough areas, icy patches and wet segments in low-lying areas. More snow is needed to enable area snowmobile clubs to provide the well groomed world class trails Vilas County is noted for.

The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance has set a TARGET DATE of Monday, December 12, 2011 for the official opening of the state funded snowmobile trail system in Vilas County, CONDITIONS PERMITTING. We will post when trails are officially opened. Until then LET IT SNOW!
