Hurley, Wisconsin Snowmobiling and Snowmobile Trail Condition Reports
Western U.P. Snowmobile Trail Report March 26, 2014 Grooming is still ongoing. The trails are in great shape. Temps today will be a high of 31;tomorrow will be a different story. We are expecting freezing rain in the morning changing to snow later in the day. We will have to wait to see what we get and if our groomers will be able to go out. Because of low traffic, the trails are awesome. Now is the time to enjoy some great riding for your last hurrah!!!! The Gogebic Range Trail Authority: Grooming is ongoing all three groomers are out on the trails. Trails are holding up with our good base and lots of snow. Groomers are reporting all trails are in great condition. Please use caution on corners they can be icy. The DNR reports that trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter. The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Trails over the Gogebic Area Grooming area are in excellent condition with 8-plus inches of new snow that fell over Friday!!! It looks like we’re in mid January rather than the end of March. This is really going to make for some fun riding. Get your sleds loaded and head up for a great ride. We will be grooming all or our trails through the end of the month, however, you can still ride the trails as long as we have snow…and this looks like it will be a good long time still. Temps are expected to reach teens for highs through Tuesday with lows around zero – perfect for grooming, perfect for riding. So don’t put your snowmobiles away just yet…you’ve just got to come up and enjoy a late season ride in our beautiful northwoods! One word of caution; watch for water running over a portion of trail #1 South, between Hwy. 2 (that runs south of Lake Gogebic) and the Gogebic Lodge (about halfway up the lake on the west shore). This area has been signed and it is still possible to ride around the wet area. Keep in mind that the deer are moving around more and more on the snowmobile trails due to the extremely deep snow, so keep an eye open for them. We’ve had several reports from snowmobilers in the area about this. Never run behind them as they don’t have the lungs for long, fast running. Come to a stop and enjoy watching them for a bit. If they don’t immediately move off just try slowly approaching them, that’ll usually do the trick. The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing and reporting all trails in very good to excellent condition!! Come Ride! Come Ride! Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.

Western U.P. Snowmobile Trail Report March 13, 2014 We are off to a chilly start with gray skies this morning. Temps this morning were a low of 14. Our highs for today and tomorrow will be in the 30′s. The next ten days our temps will be in the 20′s and 30′s. Because of low traffic, the trails are awesome. Now is the time to enjoy some great riding. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority: Trails were groomed on Wednesday. Groomers will be going out at night with the lower temps. Trails are holding up with our good base and lots of snow. Groomers are reporting all trails are in good to very good condition. The DNR reports that trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter. The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Even with temps in the 50’s the other day we still have plenty of snow for great riding conditions. Groomers are out during the night hours and with temps dipping below zero last night the trails are in really great condition. Riders in the area are raving about the trails! You may find some bare spots where trails cross roadways, as is normal for this time of the year. It looks like we’ll be down into the 20’s for highs and around zero for lows for this upcoming weekend with a good chance of snow, so the riding should continue to be good at least through another weekend. Even with the expected highs in the 30’s next week the groomer drivers will still be able to groom at night with expected lows in the teens. Like I said, we’ve got lots of snow…still. In prior years, with this much snow at this time of the year, we’ve seen snow on the ground (in the shade) into June! No kidding! Hope to see you up soon for another great ride. We’re proud to add that trail reports coming back from DNR trail inspections on our trails are all coming back with “impeccably groomed”. Another reminder to please stay off the railroad tracks. This can be dangerous, it is against the law and you will be fined for riding on the tracks. The snowmobile trails are in way too good of condition to have any excuse not to stay on them. The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing at night. USE CAUTION ON TRAIL #3 DUE TO WATER ON THAT TRAIL. Trail 3 south of Watersmeet, south of US 45 heading to Land O lakes has an area where a creek has dammed up flooding water and ice onto the trail. All other trails are good to very good condition. Come out and get some great riding in.

Snowmobile trails are listed as very good to excellent conditions, trail reports them to be 'like glass.' There is some work going on so please be aware of that. Some equipment may be present on the trails. On the Gile Flowage stay in the flagged areas where the WTR groomers extraordinaire know that they are safe. Know that entrances and egresses to businesses in the downtown may be down to the bare concrete. Always use caution as you make water crossings - you are at your own risk. We just want you safe out there.
