What can I say other than snow, snow and more snow. We have gotten an average of 28 inches of new snow in the last week. Some places in Gogebic County got more and some got less. Temps for today will be in the 20’s and for the weekend highs will be in the 30’s with lows in the teens. Snowmobiling is the best it has been all season. With our low traffic and great condition now is the time to come and have a great time riding. Our time for riding is winding down we only have little over a week left before the trails close. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority: With daily and nightly grooming ongoing groomers are trying to keep up with all the new snow we are getting. There is a trouble spot on 160. A groomer broke through a creek so use caution signs are posted. I am getting reports that trails are groomed and in great shape. I can only report on what I am told. The Lake Gogebic groomers report: Snowmobilers in the area are reporting the trails in very good condition with low traffic. Grooming is ongoing. Come up and have some fun with all the new snow we have gotten. The Watersmeet groomers report: Conditions are very good, best they have been all season. We are getting more snow again today. We received 8 inches of snow in the last 24 hours and we are still getting dumped on. We are supposed to get another 16 inches before this is done. Snowmobiling is the best it has been all season. With our low traffic and great condition now is the time to come and have a great time riding. WOW!!! We have received anywhere from 8-12 inches of new snow across the Gogebic County Area. Our weather today is sunny with a high of 27. Tonight temps will be back in the teens and it looks like the weekend will be about the same. We have a chance of snow Thursday and Friday with cloudy sky’s on Saturday and Sunday. Snowmobiling is the best it has been all season. With our low traffic and great condition now is the time to come and have a great time. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority: With our new 6 inches of snow we had gotten over night our trails are in very good condition. With daily and nightly grooming ongoing, conditions will continue to be good. There is a trouble spot on 160. A groomer broke through a creek so use caution signs are posted. The Lake Gogebic groomers report: Our area got about a foot of new snow. Snowmobilers in the area are reporting the trails in very good condition with low traffic. There have been reports of snowmobiles running on the railroad tracks through Bergland. Watch for trail signs and stay on snowmobile trail. The two run right next to each other and it is an easy mistake to make-but you will be ticketed if caught riding on the railroad tracks. The Watersmeet groomers report: They have received 6-8 inches wet heavy snow. Conditions are good to excellent. The bare spots are covered and grooming is ongoing. Keep in mind groomers can be out day or night so watch out for them and please pull over or slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority: Reports trails are good with a few icy spots. Trails 11S, 11N and 160 are freshly groomed and very nice. Please be careful on hills and corners which can be icy. Roadways and some parking lots are bare. The Lake Gogebic groomers report: Good conditions on the trails, but watch out for some icy corners. Due to reduced traffic, the trails are holding up nicely, especially in the woods. Some bare conditions in and around towns or where trails cross roadways. Grooming will continue as long as possible throughout March. There have been reports of snowmobiles running on the railroad tracks through Bergland. Watch for trail signs and stay on snowmobile trail. The two run right next to each other and it is an easy mistake to make-but you will be ticketed if caught riding on the railroad tracks. The Watersmeet groomers report: The trails are as smooth as can be and are holding up well. Looks like we might get another week or more if we make it past Saturday. Let’s hope for all snow and no rain mixed in. Road crossings and parking lots are almost bare.

Winter is finally here…looks like a nice weekend to get out and enjoy some riding. Snow is in the forecast for the next few days with temps in the teens. We received 6.5 inches of new snow over night. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority report the groomers are out. They are back on the regular grooming schedule. Trail 2, 8 and 160 are all groomed. Trails are all snow covered with some icy conditions on corners and hills. All wet areas are now frozen. Conditions are finally upgraded to good. Trail 11N and 11S still have not been groomed. Please use caution corners are icy. The Lake Gogebic groomers report: Groomers have been out all week. Trails are in good shape all snow covered and ready for you to ride. We have snow in the forecast for the several day’s with temps in the teens. Here is a warning from Lake Gogebic Area. WARNING: Although as a rule, we never comment about riding on Lake Gogebic itself, as the DNR (the sponsor of our grant money) does not recognize trails over open water – thus there are no trail markings on the lake. However, we’re experiencing a first ever problem on the lake that we want to make sure we inform our riders about for their safety. We have reports of two large holes of open water between the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern (at the northwest corner of the lake) and Fishtales Resort (approx. 6 miles south of the Hoop on the west shore). There are reports, also, of ice heaves near these spots. Please use caution and ride slow enough to see far ahead of you. These conditions could change rapidly so please use caution. The Watersmeet groomers finally went out. All trails are rolled and are in fair condition. Please use cautions corners are icy. Trail 3 north of Bruce Crossing has some trees over the trail. Groomers will be working on getting the trees off of the trail so slow down and watch out for the groomers working on the trail. Trail 3 south to Land O Lakes the snow is thin but rideable. Keep in mind groomers can be out day or night so watch out for them and please pull over or slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by. Please be careful on corners as you know several Michigan Trail signs have been discontinued. These signs are posted on our trail map. PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority report the groomers are out. They are back on the regular grooming schedule. Trail 2,8 and 160 are all groomed. Trails are all snow covered with some icy conditions. All wet areas are now frozen. Conditions are finally upgraded to fair. Trail 11N and 11S still have not been groomed. Please use caution trails are icy. The Lake Gogebic groomers report: Groomers are out getting all the trails in shape. Conditions are fair. We have snow in the forecast for the next 10 days with temps in the teens. All trails are groomed and are in fair condition. Please use cautions trails are icy. Trail 3 north of Bruce Crossing has some trees over the trail. Groomers will be working on getting the trees off of the trail so slow down and watch out for the groomers working on the trail.

It's beginning to look a lot like ...winter and Christmas. Variable amounts of snow from about 4" in the Watersmeet area --8" here on the far western end, to up to a foot in th high country by Lake Gogebic. The ground still needs to firm up it is still really wet. On the upside temps will be in the 20's for the next couple of days which will begin to help alleviate the wetness problem. Both the Gogebic Range Trail Authority and the Lake Gogebic Groomers are out panking --or rolling the trails today getting them ready for riding. Watersmeet will let us know when they can get out. We do have snow in the forecast for the next couple of days. Be patient just a tad longer... Remeber it is early season riding with wet spots, so use caution.
