Land O' Lakes Weather Report

Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin Snowmobiling and Snowmobile Trail Condition Reports
10 degrees, and light snow falling, with another two inches accumulation overnight. More is forecast for tomorrow and the next few days, but nothing major, and day time temps in the high teens and low twenties. Those mild temps make for very comfortable riding conditions, but unfortunatly don't allow the trais to freeze as solid and last as long under high traffic conditions. Our groomers are out nightly, but there is one short section on trail 5, just before Bent's camp that has a soft spot we haven't been able to get the machine through as yet. That leaves one rough section of trail, but it's only about a quarter of a mile long. We'll try to get the tracked machine through there next week, but would like to have some more sub zero temps first. The best riding conditions are in the morning, before the heavy traffic beats them up. TRAFFIC IS VERY HEAVY RIGHT NOW! THERE ARE SLEDS EVERYWHERE, SO RIDE WITH CAUTION! ENJOY THE TRAILS, BE SAFE & RIDE RIGHT! BEWARE OF THE LAKES, AS ICE CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY AND MOST LAKES HAVE SLUSH WITH ALL THE HEAVY SNOW: KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! STAY ON THE HARD PACKED TRAILS. THE TREES ARE COVERED, THE SNOW PILES ARE GETTING HIGHER AND THE GROOMERS ARE OUT EVERY NIGHT. IT'S REALLY BEGINING TO LOOK LIKE WINTER! The trails are good to very good, but the traffic is getting very heavy. Get out there and enjoy, be safe and ALWAYS RIDE RIGHT! The cold temps earlier in December have frozen most of the wet areas, however the heavy snowfalls and subsequent warmer temps of the past week or two have left swamps and wet areas that require due caution. Most lakes have slush on them, so stay on the hard packed trails. Please ride responsibly and safetly! Most lakes are now iced over and I'm getting reports of 11" to 14" of ice on the smaller lakes, but conditions vary greatly, especially on the larger lakes and any areas with moving water and springs. THE FLOWAGES ARE ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS. CHECK THE LOCAL CONDITIONS BEFORE VENTURING OUT ONTO ANY LAKE. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO! There has been a great amount of work done on our trail system throughout the summer. Most noteably, our big bad swamp on trail, 6 E now has a corduroy road, 20' wide and 125' long, through the worst of it. This solution is thanks to many hours of work by our volunteers, The Vilas County Snowmobile Co-ordinators office and the National Forest Service. RIDE SAFE & ALWAYS RIDE "RIGHT"! REMEMBER, THERE ARE SLEDS COMING TOWARD YOU AT ALL TIMES!

Scheduled Trail Opening is Monday, December 10. Snow conditions & trail inspection permitting. There is snow on the ground & it's snowing right now at 9:50 am. 2-4 inches for today with snow off & on for the rest of the week. Best chance of a good snow fall on Sunday. Will keep you posted.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

The temps in the northwoods have fallen to winter norms and, as you can see via our web cams, the snow we've gotten so far has really made our hunters happy. BUT, don't even think about the trails opening until the hunters are out of the woods and there is more snow on the ground. We'll be sure to let you know when that happens!

Take care and, hey, support our farmers. Eat alot this Turkey Day!

March 12, 2007 Trail Conditions: Poor Snow Cover: 26-30 inches Area Report: Monday: the 5 A.M. temp is 28 degrees. I have downgraded the trails to poor as the warming trend came in with a vengence and we've had 50 degree temps the past two days with bright sunlight. All areas with full sun exposure are bare ice and ground. Shady areas in the forest are still good, but getting to them is difficult, at best. More warm weather and possibly some light rain are forecast for today and tomorrow. Later this week another cooling trend and more snow is promised, but it is not forecast to be any significant snowfall. It doesn't look good for the next few days, posssibly the rest of the season which ends officially at Midnight, March 31st. But, it is March and you never know what the weather will do from day to day. We can have 50 degrees and full sun one day and -10 and blizzard conditions the next. CHECK LOCAL ICE CONDITIONS BEFORE VENTURING OUT ONTO ANY LAKE. RIDE SAFE & ALWAYS RIDE "RIGHT"! REMEMBER, THERE ARE SLEDS COMING TOWARD YOU AT ALL TIMES!
