Porcupine Mountain, Ontonagon & Silver City, Michigan Snowmobile Trail and Snowmobiling Conditions Reports

Come Play in the Porkies! Snowmobile, downhill ski, cross-country ski, snow board, snowshoe or just relax in Ontonagon and Silver City in the Western U.P. of Michigan.  You'll experience the highest vertical drop in Michigan or Wisconsin and you'll see spectacular, panoramic views of Lake Superior. The Porkies are home to one of the first alpine ski areas in the Midwest as well as some of the most scenic Nordic ski trails in the entire Great Lakes region.

Sporting a vertical drop of 641 feet, the Porcupine Mountains Ski Area has 15 runs that are served by a triple chair, double chair, T-bar, and handle tow. The chalet offers ski and snowboard rentals, pro shop, rest rooms, fireplaces, public phone, National Ski Patrol, and cafeteria. Children twelve and under always ski free!

Porcupine Mountain, Silver City & Ontonagon, Michigan Snowmobiling and Snowmobile Trail Conditions Reports
Well the warm temps have taken a toll on the trails...we have good ,bad and ugly.....some wet spots and some dirt spots. Surpisinly there is also some good areas that are still snow covered and ridable....It may not last long...warm temps in the forecast....ALWAYS CALL BEFORE HEADING NORTH FOR THE MOST UPDATED CONDITIONS.....

Just talked to a groomer who was out last night doing the ontonagon to white pine trail. He said it was very good. Sun was out today but snow did not melt. It has been very cold at night. Trails will still be ridable for many days. As always call before coming to the area to check the most current conditons.

Both groomers are out grooming the trails. All area trails are rated good to excellent. Fresh snow was an added bonus......

Past 2 days we have received 6-10 inches in the area of fresh snow. Winter is still alive and well. The Ontonagon area includes White Pine, Silver City, Porcupine MOuntains and Ontonagon. Trails are being groomed nightly. Groomer in Silver City had some problems and needed repair but club is sharing a groomer at this time, till fixed. Base is good, temps have kept the snow crisp. We received 12 inches of snow in the past four days. Trails continue to be in very good shape. All trails in the Ontonagon area(whish includes White Pine, Silver City, Ontonagon and the Porcupine Mountains are rated very good to excellent. Your will find less snow close to the towns. Base is good and solid. Nightly grooming is being done. We usually have snow and good trails thur March, so come on up to the UP. Most current conditons or lodging infor call 906-884-2187

Feb 14: Snow storm is here. Weather man says up to 10 inches of snow will fall. Very good snowmobililing is here. There was an increase in traffic this weekend but trails held up well. Nightly grooming continues. Plan a trip to the UP to enjoy the snow. This report is for the Ontonagon area: which includes White Pine, Silver City and the Porcupine Mountains. COULDNT BE BETTER. TRAILS IN THE AREA ARE RATED VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT. GREAT BASE, NIGHTLY GOOMING, COLD TEMPS, FRESH SNOW.....WHAT MORE COULD ONE ASK FOR. WEEKEND TRAFFIC WILL INCREASE ON SOME OF THE TRAILS BUT TRAFFIC IS MUCH LESS THEN THE EASTERN UPPER PENINSULA AREAS. ENJOY YOU RIDE. REMEMBER WINTER WILL BE WITH USE FOR MANY WEEKS. Well we all know that the groundhog saw his shadow. We will have 6 more weeks of winter. We went to bed Sat night and woke up to 4 inches of fresh snow Sunday. The temps are cold. We have ideal snowmobiling conditions: cold temps, fresh snow, and good base. Nightly gooming is being done. Ontonagon area has plenty of snow in the past four days we have gotten over 20 inches.Temps are cold and the trails have a great base. low traffic in the area and nightly grooming is being done. WE RECEIVED SNOW SNOW AND MORE SNOW THE PAST TWO DAYS TEMPS HAVE DROPPED AND THE SNOW HAS FALLEN. TOTAL FOR THE PAST TWO DAYS IN THE AREA IS 10-14 INCHES. GROOMERS ARE OUT. SNOWMOBILING WILL BE GREAT THIS WEEKEND. AREA STILL HAS LOW TRAFFIC. BE CAREFULL WHEN TRAVELING THE SNOW IS STILL COMING DOWN.

WE HAVE RECEIVED THAT WARM WEATHER....TRAILS WILL NOT BE GROOMED UNTIL WE RECEIVE SNOW AND COLDER TEMPS. THIS IS WHEN WE SAY "THINK SNOW" WE ALL KNOW THAT WINTER IS NOT OVER. THERE WILL BE MORE TO COME. THERE IS STILL SNOW ON THE TRAILS BUT AREAS THAT ARE POOR ARE IN SILVER CITY, WHITE PINE TO SILVER CITY AND PLACES CLOSET TO TOWN. JANUARY 22 NOTHING HAS CHANGED TRAILS ARE STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. ONLY FAIR CONDITON OF TRAIL IS IN THE SILVER CITY AREA BY THE LAKE. ALL OTHERS ARE RATED GOOD TO VERY GOOD. VERY LOW TRAFFIC SEEN ON THE ONTONAGONTRAILS. WE WERE THE FIST TO GET SNOW SO BASE IS STILL VERY GOOD. WEATHER HAS REACHED 30'S A COUPLE DAYS THIS HAS NOT RUINED OUR TRAILS. REMEMBER WE SNOWMOBILE TILL APRIL (USUALLY) WHEN OTHERS ARE GETTING OUT THEIR MOWERS WE ARE STILL MOVING SNOW. COME TO THE NORTH AND SEE THE TRAILS.

January 8, 2010 Snowmobile trails are all rated very good to excellent. Nightly grooming is being done. Groomers report low traffic, good base and very good trails. Our groomer went out yesterday to start the nightly grooming and blew a tire. Will be Monday before it is fixed. Groomer is on trail 12 BEWARE. Trails are all ridable, we still have a lot of snow on the ground.Light traffic has been reported. Remember to wear your helmets in Michigan, Its the law. The grommers do have the right away. Report for Ontonagon, White Pine and Silver City. Snow is here. Official snowfall todate is 66 inches in December, 19 inches in the past 24 hours.(7am 12/10 to 7am 12/11). This may be the year of the "Big Snow'. Groomer has panned trails, nightly grooming will be starting this week. Snowmobile lane on the Ontongon bridge is snow covered. Temps have been cold, dress warm, wind chill is high for the next 24 hours. Information on trails or lodging call 906-884-2187

Well the Ontonagon area asked for snow and we got it. Snow depths range from 1.5 feet to 2 feet depending on the area. Groomers were busy yesteday panning the trails, all should be done in a day or two. Grooming has not started. Good news we are getting snow. We have 7-9 inches on the ground. It is the nice white light snow. Trails will be packed when temps are cold and ample snow has fallen.....please be patient it will be soon. The trail report will be updated every few days at this time depending on snow fall. Temps are in the 20s during the day and 15-19 at night at this time. More snow in the forecast. This report is for Silver City, White Pine and Ontonagon.
