Eagle River, Wisconsin Snowmobiling and Snowmobile Trail Conditions Reports
TRAIL ARE IN FAIR CONDITION. Conditions in town is less. We are still a bit of a warm up but it looks like it will be partly cloudy to cloudy & that helps a lot. The sun is evil. There is an ice base under the snow so it might be good to slow down a bit. Slow please. The Lake Trails, Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trail are open & marked with orange reflective barrels. Please stay by them for safety. Do not go on any lake that is not marked as a trail. There are a lot of guys ice fishing so make sure to slow down as you drive by them plus there could be vehicle ruts. Reports of surface slush. If this is not something you want to deal with in Sno-Eagles Country, Eagle River there are land trails that will take you in the same direction. Purchase a trail map. SNO-EAGLES COUNTRY HAS 1 RE ROUTE OF A TRAILS THIS YEAR. TRAIL 13 SOUTH has been re routed due to a landowner closing of a section of the original trail. At the intersection of Trail 13 South & Trail 70 West behind the Dairy Queen... Trail 13 will now head west on the Trail 70 West Trail. It will continue west until it intersects with what is now Trail 7 South heading south & then connecting to the Sugar Camp Trail System. The Trail section that heads South behind the Dairy Queen is now Trail 10. Trail 10 will use the "grade" to Willow Rd as the trail always has. At Willow Rd Trail 10 heads east(left turn) which also takes you to the Catfish Lake Loop. Trail 13 heading through Eagle River & parts north remains the same. I would strongly recommend that riders pick up a new 2012 Sno-Eagles Trail Map. Start Doin' the Snow Dance & maybe a Cold Dance! See ya on the trails! Holly Tomlanovich Sno-Eagles, Inc. Lot of new SNOW on the trails! TRAIL ARE IN GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION. Very busy weekend in Eagle River. The trails were groomed every night. After a day of tons of sleds it was time to groom each night as the trail did get rough & choppy. They were groomed last night & look very good this morning. About maybe 2 inches overnight & it is SNOWING off & on this morning. So we could end up with another 1 or so. SNOWED off & on all weekend especially Saturday which was windy as well. Last night at 10pm it was 5 below. This morning at 9am it is 12 degrees. High 20's today. Temps will pop up for the enxt few days. Will drop again near the weekend. Stay tuned for daily reports. There is a thick ice base under the snow so it might be good to slow down a bit. Also there is some snow blow out in some corners. Very windy Saturday as I rode there were drifts on most lake trails & even on many land trails. Most of the drifts on the land trails have been taken care by grooming but be aware. SNO-EAGLES COUNTRY HAS 1 RE ROUTE OF A TRAILS THIS YEAR. TRAILS IN SNO-EAGLES COUNTRY THAT IS THE 100 MILES IN & AROUND EAGLE RIVER ARE IN GOOD RIDING CONDITION It's a cold one this morning. 22 below when I got up at 6:15am. At 8:15am it is 18 below zero!!! 8 below tonight & 19 for a high on Saturday with a bit of SNOW in hte forecast! Should expect this, this is the normal Snowmobile Derby weather! Trail Boss Tom has the groomers going out everynight. With the super cold the trails lay down very smoothly. Even with the sun out this morning it is just too cold to melt anything. Note that there is chop on Trail 10/13 also known as the Wisconsin River Bridge Trail. Use Trail 70W or head up on Trail 3 if you don't want to deal with the chop. The Lake Trails, Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trail are open & marked with orange reflective barrels. Please stay by them for safety. Do not go on any lake that is not marked as a trail. If you are riding today make sure that all skin is covered. It doesn't take much to get frost bite. Layers of clothes works the best. Stop often & make sure you keep your sled full of gas. As you ride you will see 6 inches brown signs along the trail & at intersections. Keep an eye on these. If you have a problem call 911 & give them the 3 digit number. The Sheriff's Department can pin point where you are. Up here they can not always find you by your cell phone signal. Many times they have to work off the ping from the tower. Which could take more time. Trails in Eagle River...Sno-Eagles Country are in GOOD to FAIR riding condition. 1-2 inches of new SNOW fell yesterday afternoon which was a very overcast day. Overnight low of 8 below zero. At 8:45am it is 9 below zero. High today of 18 with more afternoon SNOW. Tonight 5 below & a high of 5 on Thursday. Snow Showers in the forecast for Thursday. Full grooming over night. This will continue for the near future. With the cold last night the trails are flat. There is ice underneath so be aware & maybe slow down. The slush I reported on Trail 10/13 over the Wisconsin River Bridge is no longer an issue. Safe to cross. Was out there on Saturday myself. Because Trail Boss Tom waits for that area to freeze down & doesn't run the heavy groomers over the area it is a bit rough. After the single & below zero night temps he will have a groomer out there cutting the chop. The Lake Trails, Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trail are open & marked with orange reflective barrels. Please stay by them for safety. Do not go on any lake that is not marked as a trail. Trails in Eagle River...Sno-Eagles Country are in GOOD to FAIR riding condition. Groomers were out last night grooming & the trails looked pretty good to good from what I saw as i drove in this morning. Temperatures & weather for the next few days. A pop up to the mid 20's today then 15 tonight. High tomorrow of 15 & single digits over night. Same for Wednesday. That's great will set up the trails. SNOW forecast for Tuesday & Wednesday. Later this week after the single & below zero night temps he will have a groomer out there cutting the chop. The Lake Trails, Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trail are open & marked with orange reflective barrels. Please stay by them for safety. Do not go on any lake that is not marked as a trail. Trails in Sno-Eagles Country, the 100 miles in & around Eagle River are now in FAIR condition on average There are FAIR, GOOD & POOR conditions out there. Yes the temperatures have gone up. Will drop on Saturday with a high of 27 & 26 for Sunday. Lake Snow in the forecast. No totals available. Stay tuned. This morning I looked at Trail 13N, the "grade" through Eagle River. As of 9 am it is still covered. The brim is intact & heading north there was snow cover all the way out to Hwy G. Looking north from where Trail 13N crosses it is snow covered. Looking south near the Dairy Queen it is snirty for a block or 2 then clean snow covered as far as I could see. Trail 10E is snow covered on the south side of Hwy 70. That would the 1 way that is heading out east. On the north side is getting thin as the sun hits that more. The Sno-Eagles Country & all of Vilas County Snowmobile Trails opened on December 12 at noon. Trails are in early riding condition & in need of SNOW. Well, well, well egg on my face this morning. The SNOW yesterday left about 1 inch of new packy SNOW. It was followed late yesterday afternoon by a down pour of rain. So Trail Boss Tom did not go out & pan last night as planned. Even with the rain there still is SNOW on the ground & yes Lake Snow is falling as of 9am. It is about 33 degrees which is forecast as the high for today. Good news in the forecast is that highs will only be in the 20's & it looks good for some Lake Snow. Stay tuned. Please do not go out on the lake trails. The Sno-Eagles Country & all of Vilas County Snowmobile Trails opened on December 12 at noon. Now that's the good news. The not so good news is that the trails have snow on them but are just barely rideable in a few areas of the County. The trails need to freeze down. For that I need you all to THINK COLD. After that we need the temps to drop just a few degrees so that the precip that we are getting will turn to SNOW. Then I need you all to do the SNOW DANCE!!!! Need to hear it up here. Maybe this is the warm up we have been getting between Christmas & New Year's coming early. That would be terrific!! Get it over & then we ride!!!! Please do not go out on the lake trails. The Trail section that heads south behind the Dairy Queen is now Trail 10. Trail 10 will use the "grade" to Willow Rd as the trail always has. At Willow Rd Trail 10 heads east(left turn) which also takes you to the Catfish Lake Loop I would strongly recommend that riders pick up a new 2012 Sno-Eagles Trail Map. THINK SNOW...so I can see ya on the trails! Holly Tomlanovich Sno-Eagles, Inc.
